Accessibility Statement

Shika Design believes that everyone should be able to use our website independently, with equal access and dignity. We have invested effort and resources so that people with disabilities can browse the site, learn about our work and contact us, in accordance with the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Law, 5758-1998, and the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Accessibility Adjustments for Service) Regulations, 5773-2013.

Accessibility level

The site has been adapted to conform with Israeli Standard IS 5568, "Accessibility Guidelines for Web Content", at level AA. The standard is based on the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, and we also work towards WCAG 2.1 level AA.

What we have done

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a clearly visible focus indicator
  • A "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page
  • A consistent page structure with landmarks and an orderly heading hierarchy, for screen readers
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology
  • Text and background colours that meet the AA contrast ratios
  • Labelled form fields, with required fields marked and confirmation messages announced
  • Layouts that adapt to any screen size and to browser zoom of up to 200%
  • Animations that respect the system "reduce motion" setting and can be stopped
  • Page language and reading direction declared for English, Hebrew and Arabic
  • Links that open in a new tab are announced as such

The accessibility menu

The accessibility button in the corner of every page (or the Alt+A keyboard shortcut) opens a menu with these adjustments. Your choices are saved in your browser for future visits:

  • Text size: enlarge the text up to 200%
  • High contrast: black background, white text and yellow links
  • Grayscale: display the site without colour
  • Highlight links: underline and mark every link
  • Readable font: replace decorative fonts with a simple, clear font
  • Text spacing: increase line, word and letter spacing
  • Stop animations: stop all movement and transitions
  • Big cursor: enlarge the mouse pointer
  • Highlight focus: a strong highlight on the element in focus
  • Reset: return all adjustments to the default

Supported browsers and assistive technology

The site was checked with current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, on desktop and mobile, and with the NVDA and VoiceOver screen readers.

Known limitations

We continue to review and improve the site. Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Project photographs are described by the name of the project rather than in full detail, and linked external sites (such as Instagram and Facebook) are not under our control. If you encounter a barrier, please let us know and we will do our best to fix it.

Meetings and services

If you need an accessibility accommodation for a meeting with us or for receiving our services, please let us know in advance and we will be happy to arrange it.
